OPTO Telecentric Lenses

Opto Engineering produces several telecentric lens series, each with specific features and applications

Opto Engineering offers a wide range of telecentric lenses designed for machine vision applications where precise, accurate, and distortion-free measurement is essential. These lenses are designed to prevent the perspective error, or parallax, that typically occurs when imaging three-dimensional objects.

Telecentric lenses are Opto Engineering’s core business: they are the result of over twenty years of constant investment in R&D. Not only do we design and manufacture a wide range of models, we hold numerous international patents. We have received awards and prizes in the machine vision sector, and are universally known as THE TELECENTRIC COMPANY®, our trademark combined with the blue ring trademark used on all our telecentric lenses.

Telecentric lenses are used in innumerable vision applications, and in particular they form the critical component of the optical system when precise measurement is required. Non-contact measurement applications demand the use of such lenses which, thanks to their low distortion, can eliminate perspective errors (parallax effect) due to imprecise positioning or objects with strongly 3D geometries.

Opto Engineering offers a vast range of precision telecentric and bi-telecentric lenses for the most diverse requirements of the market: models for high and low resolution area and line scan sensors in a variety of magnifications and working distances; classic, compact and flat lenses, along with standard and custom solutions.

Key features

Constant magnification

An object’s size and shape appear consistent throughout the field of view, even if it moves closer or farther away from the lens. This is the main advantage of telecentric lenses and a crucial feature for accurate measurement.

Low distortion

Opto telecentric lenses are known for producing very low distortion, which is essential for accurate measurements.

Reduced parallax error

Because the lens captures rays of light that are parallel to its optical axis, it eliminates the perspective error that is typical in conventional lenses.

Enhanced depth of field

They offer a larger depth of field compared to standard lenses, ensuring that objects with slight variations in height remain in sharp focus.

High resolution

Telecentric lenses can achieve excellent resolution, which is vital for inspecting small and intricate objects.

Typical applications

Machine vision systems

Used for automated defect detection, dimensional checking, and quality control.

Metrology

Essential for highly accurate part measurements in manufacturing and lab environments, with applications including precision mechanical parts like engine components, screws, and springs.

Semiconductor and PCB inspection

Helps detect defects and inspect components on microchips and circuit boards.

Pharmaceuticals and packaging

Used for inspection tasks like verifying label positioning, seal integrity, and fill levels.

360° view lenses

The company also produces special lenses for inspecting cylindrical objects from all sides, which can reduce the number of cameras and lenses needed.
